Although you can place native Photoshop (and other formats) in InDesign documents you may find it more convenient to use the JPG format for your photographs.

 

Keep the images in the same folder, or in a sub-folder, as the InDesign file so the document can reference the original images. Have a look at the Links panel (Windows > Links) to discover more information about your placed images.

 

InDesign is a professional high level desktop application used throughout the world by publishers and designers - it's hardly crap! Maybe you should take some time to learn to use the application. There are a number of books and online tutorials we can recommend and people on this forum are friendly and knowledgeable and always ready to help with suggestions and advice with specific questions.
