Uniform wavey line function

Hi

I am trying to figure out how I can create a number of lines and shapes with a uniform wavy line pattern.  The zig-zag function (Effects - Distort and Transform) does not create  a uniform pattern, particularly for non-linear lines and shapes.  I have read about creating arc points for each seperate line, however I have alot of lines to create and making individual points will take a long time.

Any thoughts on how to do this?
