I did exactly that and the background object is still selected also. I am using the plain selection tool. Is that the right one?

I am trying to select a logo group in the bottom corner of a larger object that has a clipping path. I want to select just the logo group in order to make it a Group. Perhaps I am doing something incorrectly?
